David has painted since he was a teenager. He worked as a draughtsman and land surveyor from the age of 16 and then as a chartered civil engineer until 1989 when he became a professional painter.


He works in pastels and oils, painting small studies` en plein air` and larger works in his Yorkshire studio.

He was elected to the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 2006.
